Wovn Depot Apparel Production Guide

How Your Riot Mind Studios Products Are Made | Production & Fulfillment Guide

Every product you order from Riot Mind Studios goes through a defined production process before it reaches your door. This post breaks down exactly how each product type gets made, what technology and methods are involved, and what that means for the quality of what you receive. No two product types are built the same way, and understanding the process behind each one helps set accurate expectations around production time, print quality, and how to care for what you ordered.

Most products in the Wovn Depot. lineup are produced and fulfilled by Printful — a global print-on-demand fulfillment company that handles production, packaging, and shipping on our behalf. Each order triggers production only after you place it. Nothing sits in a warehouse. Every item ships fresh from production directly to your address under the Riot Mind Studios brand.

Standard fulfillment time across all Printful products is 2 to 5 business days. Over 97% of orders ship within 5 business days. More than half ship within 3. Shipping time is separate from fulfillment time — once your order ships, domestic delivery typically runs 1 to 8 business days depending on your location and the shipping method selected at checkout.

T-Shirts

Production Method: Direct-to-Garment (DTG) Printing

Every Wovn Depot. t-shirt is produced using Direct-to-Garment printing — a digital printing method that applies water-based ink directly onto the fabric using specialized inkjet technology. Think of it as printing on paper, but on a cotton shirt, with precision-controlled ink placement that captures fine detail and full color range without the setup costs or limitations of traditional screen printing.

The process at Printful works like this: the garment is loaded onto a flat surface called a platen, then a pre-treatment is applied to the fabric to bond the ink to the fibers and keep colors sharp and accurate. The design is then printed with water-based, non-toxic inks jetted directly onto the pre-treated surface in precise coordinates. Once the print is complete, the garment goes into a curing dryer to evaporate the pre-treatment and lock the ink into the fabric permanently.

DTG is the right method for this product because the Bella+Canvas 3001 is 100% combed and ring-spun cotton — and cotton absorbs water-based DTG inks better than any other fabric type. The result is a soft, breathable print that does not crack, peel, or sit on top of the fabric the way screen-printed or heat-transfer graphics do. The design becomes part of the shirt.

Each shirt goes through Printful's 3-step quality control process before it is packaged. Production time is 2 to 5 business days per order.

Snapback Hats

Production Method: Embroidery

Wovn Depot. snapback hats are produced through machine embroidery — a process that stitches your design directly into the hat's fabric using thread rather than ink. The result is a raised, textured graphic that holds its definition through repeated wear and washing in a way that printed hat graphics cannot.

Before any hat goes to production, the design file is digitized — a one-time conversion process that translates the artwork into a format that embroidery machines can read and execute stitch-by-stitch. Once digitized, the file is locked in and used for every subsequent production run of that design. The hat is then loaded onto the embroidery machine, the design area is positioned and secured, and the machine stitches the graphic into the front panel using thread colors selected during the design process. Every hat is finished by hand before being inspected and packaged.

The blank used for all Wovn Depot. snapbacks is the Yupoong 6089M — a structured, high-profile 6-panel snapback with a flat bill, full buckram interior, green undervisor, and plastic snap closure. Printful produces these hats in certified facilities in partnership with Yupoong, using professional embroidery equipment built for commercial production volume.

Embroidery is not suitable for extremely fine details or photorealistic images — it is a thread-based medium, and the design is intentionally built to work within those constraints. What it produces instead is a clean, sharp, durable graphic that sits clean on a structured hat panel and does not fade, crack, or peel.

Production specs at a glance:

  • Printing method: Machine embroidery
  • Thread: Multi-color, commercial-grade embroidery thread
  • Base product: Yupoong 6089M Classic Snapback

Notebooks

Production Method: Digital Cover Printing + Spiral Binding

Print Works notebooks are produced through a digital print-on-demand process that prints a full-color custom cover design onto the notebook's exterior, then binds the interior pages using wire-o (spiral) binding. Each notebook is assembled individually after your order is placed — there is no pre-made stock sitting in a warehouse waiting to be sold.

The cover design is printed digitally in full color using high-resolution output on a soft-touch cardboard cover material. Digital printing at this level produces consistent, vibrant color across every copy without the color variance or setup costs of offset printing. Once the cover is printed, it is trimmed to size and bound together with the interior pages using a wire-o binding mechanism — a metal coil that threads through a series of evenly spaced holes punched along the spine edge of both the cover and pages. Wire-o binding allows the notebook to lay completely flat when open, which makes it more functional for writing, sketching, or note-taking than a perfect-bound or glued spine.

The Printful spiral notebook specifically features a soft-touch cardboard cover, 100 dotted interior pages, and wire-o binding. Dotted pages are intentionally format-neutral — they work for lined writing, bullet journaling, sketching, grid layouts, or freeform notes depending on how you use them.

Production specs at a glance:

  • Cover printing method: Full-color digital printing
  • Cover material: Soft-touch cardboard
  • Binding: Wire-o (spiral) binding — lies flat when open
  • Interior: 100 dotted pages
  • Production model: Print-on-demand — assembled per order

Stickers

Production Method: In-House Digital Print & Cut (Label Co.)

Stickers are the one product in the Riot Mind Studios catalog that is not fulfilled by Printful. Every sticker is designed, printed, processed, and shipped through Label Co. — our in-house production studio based in New Rochelle, NY.

The production process starts with the finalized artwork file being sent to our in-house print setup, where the design is printed digitally onto vinyl substrate. Vinyl is the standard material for durable, weather-resistant stickers because it holds ink well, resists moisture and UV exposure, and flexes without cracking on curved surfaces. Once printed, the vinyl sheet is laminated — a clear protective layer is applied over the print surface to seal the ink and add an additional layer of UV and scratch resistance. The laminated sheet is then run through a cutting process that cuts the sticker to its final shape, either to a standard rectangle or to a custom contour cut that follows the edge of the design itself.

Each sticker is inspected before being packaged for shipment. Because stickers are produced in-house rather than through a third-party fulfillment partner, production and processing time is managed directly by the studio. Turnaround times may vary slightly from the Printful standard but are generally comparable. All orders ship from New Rochelle, NY.

Production specs at a glance:

  • Printing method: Digital print on vinyl substrate
  • Finish: Laminate-coated, UV protected
  • Cut: Standard or contour cut depending on design
  • Material: Durable vinyl — weather and moisture resistant
  • Fulfillment: In-house, Label Co. — New Rochelle, NY
  • Fulfillment partner: Not Printful — Label Co. internal production

Backpacks

Production Method: All-Over Print (AOP) — Sublimation + Cut & Sew

Wovn Depot. backpacks are produced using Printful's All-Over Print (AOP) process — a cut-and-sew production method that prints your design across the entire surface of the bag before it is assembled. This is a fundamentally different process from DTG or embroidery. The finished product is not a pre-made bag with a graphic applied to it. It is a bag that is assembled from printed fabric panels after the design has been embedded into the material.

Here is how it works: your design is first printed onto sublimation paper. That paper is then placed against the polyester fabric and run through a heat press — the heat causes the sublimation ink to convert into a gas and embed directly into the polyester fibers rather than sitting on top of them. Once the design is embedded, the fabric is cut into the panels and pieces that make up the backpack. Printful's in-house sewing team then assembles the final bag using professional-grade sewing machines, stitching the printed panels together into a finished, functional backpack. Because the design is part of the fabric rather than a layer on top of it, it cannot peel, crack, or lift — the graphic is as durable as the fabric itself.

Sublimation works exclusively on polyester or polymer-coated fabrics. This is why AOP backpacks are built from polyester — the material is required for the process to work correctly. Every bag goes through Printful's 3-step quality control process before it is packed and shipped.

Production specs at a glance:

  • Printing method: Sublimation + Cut & Sew (All-Over Print)
  • Fabric: Polyester (required for sublimation)
  • Design coverage: Full surface, seam to seam
  • Assembly: Cut and sewn in-house by Printful production team
  • Fulfillment partner: Printful

Hoodies

Production Method: Direct-to-Garment (DTG) Printing

Hoodies are not currently available in the Wovn Depot. lineup but will be added to the catalog in a future drop. When they are, they will be produced through the same DTG printing process used for t-shirts — with a few process-specific differences worth knowing in advance.

The DTG process on hoodies works identically to t-shirts: the garment is loaded onto a platen, pre-treatment is applied, water-based ink is printed directly onto the fabric, and the garment is cured to lock the print. The main difference is surface complexity. Hoodies have a textured fleece interior, a thicker fabric construction, and a front pouch pocket that creates a seam interruption across the print area. Printful handles print placement to account for that seam, and graphic designs are positioned to work with the garment's natural structure rather than against it.

Hoodies in the Wovn Depot. lineup will be built on Bella+Canvas or comparable quality blanks — the same brand standard applied to the t-shirt lineup. Fabric blend will include a cotton/polyester mix for fleece construction, which behaves slightly differently under DTG ink than pure cotton. The polyester content means slightly less ink absorption compared to a 100% cotton shirt, so designs will be formulated with that in mind.

Production and fulfillment timelines when hoodies are added will follow the same Printful standard: 2 to 5 business days fulfillment, with domestic shipping of 1 to 8 business days after the order ships.

Planned production specs:

  • Printing method: Direct-to-Garment (DTG)
  • Base garment: Bella+Canvas or comparable quality blank (TBD at launch)
  • Fabric: Cotton/polyester fleece blend
  • Fulfillment partner: Printful
  • Fulfillment time: 2–5 business days (upon launch)
  • Status: Coming soon — not currently available

Embroidered Beanies

Production Method: Machine Embroidery

Embroidered beanies are not currently available in the Wovn Depot. lineup but will be added to the catalog in a future drop. When they are, they will be produced through the same machine embroidery process used for the snapback hats — with some differences in how the process works on a knit fabric versus a structured woven panel.

The embroidery process itself is identical: the design is digitized first, converting the artwork into a stitch-by-stitch instruction file that the embroidery machine reads and executes. The machine then stitches the design into the face of the beanie using commercial-grade thread. Where beanies differ from snapbacks is in the fabric. A structured snapback panel is firm and flat — it holds position easily under the embroidery hoop. Knit beanie fabric is stretchy and textured, which means the design area needs to be stabilized during production to prevent the stitching from pulling or distorting the fabric. Printful handles this with backing material and hooping techniques specific to knit construction.

Because of the stretch in knit fabric, beanie embroidery works best with clean, bold designs that do not rely on very fine detail or small text. The same design constraints that apply to snapback embroidery apply here — the medium is thread, not ink, and designs are built to work within those parameters. The result is a durable, raised graphic that holds its shape and definition through repeated wear and washing.

Beanies in the Wovn Depot. lineup will be produced and fulfilled through Printful following the same quality control and fulfillment standards applied to every other product in the catalog. Production and fulfillment timelines when beanies are added will follow the Printful standard of 2 to 5 business days, with domestic shipping of 1 to 8 business days after the order ships.

Planned production specs:

  • Printing method: Machine embroidery
  • Fabric: Knit construction (acrylic blend — TBD at launch)
  • Design constraint: Bold, clean graphics — fine detail limited by knit stretch
  • Fulfillment partner: Printful
  • Fulfillment time: 2–5 business days (upon launch)
  • Status: Coming soon — not currently available
